raclette

Swiss cheese dish

Raclette is a Swiss dish of melted cheese scraped onto potatoes, bread, or cured meats.

The name comes from the French word for "to scrape"—traditionally, a wheel of cheese is heated and the softened surface scraped off onto the plate.

Raclette also refers to the semi-firm Alpine cheese used in the dish: We bought a wedge of raclette for the dinner party.
