pylorus

Gastric outlet valve

The pylorus is the muscular opening at the lower end of the stomach, where partially digested food passes into the small intestine.

A ring of muscle called the pyloric sphincter controls this passage, relaxing to let food through and contracting to prevent backflow.

The surgeon found an obstruction near the pylorus.
