put
Position something somewhere
Put is a “cause motion” verb that is typically followed by an object (the thing moved) and a prepositional phrase with adverbial effect telling where the thing ends up: Put those books on the table over there.
Put also participates in many phrasal verbs that are figurative and not about motion, such as put up with (tolerate), put down (insult or criticize), and put out (extinguish, publish, or annoy).
In securities terminology, a put is an option to sell an asset at a fixed price within a specified period of time.
