puffballs
Spherical spore mushrooms
Puffballs are round fungi that release clouds of spores when mature and disturbed—squeeze one and it puffs.
They grow in fields and forests, some species edible when young and white inside.
The word extends to anything similarly round and puffy: a puffball skirt billows out, a puffball dog breed has fluffy fur.
