Amanita
Death cap's classification
Amanita is the formal scientific genus name for a group of gilled mushrooms in the family Amanitaceae.
The genus includes both deadly poisonous species like *Amanita phalloides* (death cap) and the hallucinogenic *Amanita muscaria* (fly agaric).
In technical and mycological writing, the capitalized form appears in binomial nomenclature: Amanita bisporigera is known as the destroying angel. (Lowercase amanita refers to these mushrooms informally.)
