public space
Open community zone
Public space is any area accessible to the general public—parks, sidewalks, plazas, libraries, and similar places where people can gather freely.
The term often arises in discussions of who has the right to occupy and use these areas: Protesters filled the public space outside city hall.
Public spaces are distinguished from private property, where access can be restricted by owners.
