power sharing

Divided governmental control

Power sharing is the distribution of political authority among different groups, parties, or factions rather than concentrating it in one.

The term appears most often in contexts where competing groups—ethnic, religious, or partisan—must govern together to maintain peace: The peace agreement established a power-sharing government between the two factions.

Power-sharing arrangements often emerge after conflicts or in deeply divided societies.
