duumvirate

Two-person leadership

A duumvirate is a political arrangement or government controlled by two people, or the two people themselves.

The term comes from Roman magistracies where two men shared equal authority.

More loosely, it describes any partnership of two powerful figures running an organization: The company operated under a duumvirate of co-CEOs.

The individual members are duumvirs.
