pinkwashing
Cynical pride marketing
Pinkwashing describes the practice of using support for LGBTQ+ causes as a public relations strategy, often to distract from other controversial practices or to appear progressive without making substantive changes.
Companies accused of pinkwashing might display rainbow logos during Pride Month while donating to anti-LGBTQ+ politicians, or a government might highlight its gay rights record to deflect criticism of other human rights abuses.
Critics called the corporation's Pride campaign pinkwashing given its labor practices overseas.
