piles

Many accumulated masses

Piles has two unrelated meanings.

One is the plural of pile—heaps, stacks, or large quantities: piles of laundry, piles of money.

The other is an informal term for hemorrhoids—swollen blood vessels in and around the anus that cause discomfort, itching, and sometimes bleeding: suffering from piles.
