internal hemorrhoids
Inner anal swelling
Internal hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels inside the rectum, above the line where the anal canal begins.
Unlike external hemorrhoids, they typically don't cause pain because the tissue lacks pain-sensing nerves, but they often bleed during bowel movements.
Severe cases may prolapse—bulge out through the anus: The doctor said my internal hemorrhoids had prolapsed and might need banding.
