muddle

State of disorder

Muddle describes a state of confusion or disorder, whether mental or physical.

If you're in a muddle, you're bewildered or your affairs are disorganized: I'm in a muddle about what to do next.

To muddle something is to mix it up confusedly or bungle it.

In bartending, however, to muddle means to crush ingredients like mint or fruit in the bottom of a glass to release their flavors.

If you muddle through, you manage to cope despite confusion or lack of skill.
