pierhead
Where pier ends
A pierhead is the outer end of a pier—the part that extends farthest into the water.
It's where boats tie up and passengers board or disembark.
Pierhead also appears as a modifier: a pierhead jump is a last-minute decision to join a ship's crew just before departure.
