pathologies
Studies of disease
Pathologies is the plural of pathology, which has two main senses.
In medicine, pathology is the study of disease—its causes, mechanisms, and effects on the body.
A pathology can also mean a specific disease or abnormal condition: The biopsy revealed no pathology.
Figuratively, pathology describes dysfunction or deviation from what's healthy or normal: the pathologies of modern capitalism, social pathologies like addiction and crime.
