pacer
Heart rhythm regulator
A pacer is someone or something that sets the pace.
In racing, a pacer maintains a target speed for others to follow: The marathon pacer dropped out at mile twenty.
In harness racing, a pacer is a horse that moves both legs on one side together, distinct from a trotting gait.
A cardiac pacemaker is often shortened to pacer.
Someone who paces—walks back and forth nervously—is also a pacer.
