ostracization

Deliberate group rejection

Ostracization is the act of excluding someone from a group or community.

It may be formal banishment or informal shunning—either way, the person is cut off from participation and belonging.

Her ostracization from the friend group was sudden and complete.

The verb is ostracize; the less common variant is ostracism.
