ordered pairs

Sequenced two-element groups

An ordered pair is a set of two elements where sequence matters—the pair (a, b) differs from (b, a).

In coordinate geometry, ordered pairs specify points on a plane: The ordered pair (3, 5) marks a location three units right and five units up.

The concept extends to any pairing where first and second positions carry distinct meaning.
