input-output
System communication channels
Input-output describes the relationship between what goes into a system and what comes out.
In computing, input-output (or I/O) refers to communication between a computer and external devices—keyboards and mice provide input, screens and printers produce output.
In economics, input-output analysis tracks how industries supply goods to each other.
The term applies broadly to any process where resources enter and results emerge: The input-output ratio determines efficiency.
