orangerie

Glass-walled fruit house

An orangerie is a greenhouse or conservatory designed for growing citrus trees, especially oranges, in climates too cold for them to survive outdoors year-round.

Originally features of grand European estates, orangeries were ornate structures with large windows to maximize sunlight: The palace orangerie housed lemon and orange trees through the winter.

The term now applies to similar garden buildings even when citrus isn't involved.
