satsuma
Loose-skinned orange
A satsuma is a small, seedless citrus fruit with loose, easily peeled skin—a variety of mandarin orange.
Satsumas are prized for their sweetness and convenience, especially as snacks or in lunchboxes.
They're sometimes called "Christmas oranges" in Britain, where they traditionally appear in holiday stockings.
The kids peeled their satsumas at the picnic table. (Capitalized Satsuma is a place in Japan, or a type of Japanese pottery.)
