oersted
Field strength unit
Oersted is a unit of magnetic field strength in the centimeter-gram-second system, named after Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted.
The unit has largely been replaced by amperes per meter in modern scientific work, but still appears in older texts and some specialized applications: The Earth's magnetic field measures about 0.5 oersted at the surface.
