metric system
Meters and liters
The metric system is an international system of measurement based on decimal units—meters for length, grams for mass, liters for volume.
Units scale by powers of ten using standard prefixes: kilo- (thousand), centi- (hundredth), milli- (thousandth).
Adopted by most countries, it contrasts with the imperial system still used in the United States for everyday measurement.
