sestina

Troubadour's recursive form

A sestina is a complex verse form of six six-line stanzas followed by a three-line envoi.

The same six words end the lines of each stanza, rotating in a fixed pattern, then all six appear in the final tercet.

The form demands ingenuity—the poet must make repeated end-words feel fresh rather than forced.

She spent months perfecting her sestina about grief.
