cantata
Multi-movement vocal work
A cantata is a vocal musical composition with instrumental accompaniment, typically in multiple movements.
Originally developed in the Baroque period, cantatas range from intimate pieces for solo voice to elaborate works for chorus and orchestra.
Bach's church cantatas remain the most celebrated examples: The choir performed a Bach cantata for Easter services.
