nip

Puppy's quick chomp

To nip something is to take a small, quick bite or pinch.

A nip is an instance of doing this, or the amount taken.

If you nip somewhere (especially in British English), you go there quickly and return.

To nip it in the bud is to stop the development of some bad thing at an early stage.

Nip and tuck is used informally in many situations: to characterize a quick improving activity, as an informal term for cosmetic plastic surgery, and to suggest that two competitors are very close.
