nips

Flask-sized portions

Nips is the plural of nip—small bites, sharp pinches, or quick sips: The puppy gave playful nips at my ankles.

Small bottles of liquor are nips: She bought a few nips of whiskey for the flight.

The word also appears in nip and tuck, describing a close contest.

Separately, Nips is an offensive slur for Japanese people, from Nippon (Japan's name for itself), dating from World War II hostility.
