nacelles

Streamlined engine enclosures

Nacelles are streamlined housings on an aircraft, typically enclosing engines, fuel, or equipment.

They hang beneath wings or attach to the fuselage, their aerodynamic shape reducing drag: The jet's twin nacelles were mounted under each wing.

The term extends to similar housings on airships, helicopters, and wind turbines.
