sublight
Slower than light
Sublight describes speeds slower than the speed of light.
The term belongs to science fiction, where faster-than-light travel is routine and sublight propulsion—thrusters, ion drives—handles the mundane work of maneuvering and docking: The ship dropped to sublight speeds as it approached the station.
Outside fiction, all human-made objects travel at sublight speeds.
