colossi

Monumental ancient figures

Colossi is the plural of colossus—gigantic statues or figures, or by extension, anything of enormous size or power.

The word evokes ancient monumental sculpture: the colossi of Memnon, colossi guarding the temple entrance.

Figuratively, it describes dominant entities: the colossi of the tech industry.

The anglicized plural colossuses is also used.
