multitouch

Simultaneous finger input

Multitouch describes screens or touchpads that can detect and respond to multiple simultaneous points of contact.

Before multitouch, touchscreens registered only one finger at a time.

The technology enables gestures like pinch-to-zoom, two-finger scrolling, and rotation: Spread two fingers apart to enlarge the image.

Now standard on smartphones, tablets, and laptop trackpads.
