mud crabs

Brackish water shellfish

Mud crabs are large, edible crabs found in mangroves, estuaries, and muddy coastal waters, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

Prized in Asian and Australian cuisines for their sweet, rich meat, they're among the most commercially valuable crab species: We ordered chili mud crab at the hawker center.

They have powerful claws and can be aggressive when handled.
