moonwalk

Gliding backward dance

Moonwalk names two iconic but unrelated movements.

The first is walking on the moon's surface, as astronauts did during the Apollo missions: We watched the moonwalk on a grainy television.

The second is a dance move popularized by Michael Jackson, where the dancer appears to glide backward while mimicking forward steps.

Both noun and verb: He moonwalked across the stage.
