lunar module
Spacecraft for descent
A lunar module is the part of a spacecraft designed to land on the Moon's surface.
It separates from the main craft in lunar orbit, descends with astronauts aboard, then launches its upper section to rejoin the orbiting vessel.
The term is closely associated with NASA's Apollo program: The lunar module touched down in the Sea of Tranquility.
