Apollo missions
NASA lunar program
The Apollo missions were NASA's human spaceflight program that landed the first humans on the Moon.
Running from 1961 to 1972, the program achieved six lunar landings, beginning with Apollo 11 in 1969.
The term evokes mid-century American ambition and technological achievement: It was our generation's Apollo mission.
Failed missions, especially Apollo 13, symbolize resourceful recovery from crisis.
