minster
Grand English church
A minster is a large or important church, especially one that was originally attached to a monastery or served as a cathedral.
The term survives mainly in the names of specific English churches: York Minster, Westminster.
Unlike cathedral, which denotes an active administrative function, minster is primarily historical or honorific.
