almoner
Institutional relief giver
An almoner is a person who distributes alms—charitable gifts to the poor.
Historically, almoners were officials attached to monasteries, royal households, or noble families, responsible for dispensing charity on behalf of their employers.
In British hospitals, the term once designated a social worker who helped patients with financial and welfare matters, though this usage has faded.
