minsters
Grand English churches
Minsters are large or important churches, especially in England.
The term originally designated churches attached to monasteries, but it persisted in the names of major churches long after their monastic origins faded: York Minster, Westminster.
A minster typically has cathedral-like grandeur without necessarily being a bishop's seat.
