ministroke

Temporary brain ischemia

A ministroke is an informal term for a transient ischemic attack (TIA)—a brief episode where blood flow to part of the brain is temporarily blocked.

Symptoms mirror a stroke (weakness, slurred speech, confusion) but typically resolve within minutes to hours without permanent damage.

Ministrokes are warning signs: She had a ministroke last year and now takes blood thinners.

The "mini" understates the seriousness—about a third of people who experience one will later have a full stroke.
