midtone
Neither light dark
Midtone refers to the range of tones between the lightest and darkest areas of an image.
In photography and digital imaging, adjusting midtones affects the middle grays without changing highlights or shadows: I brought up the midtones to brighten her face without blowing out the background.
The term appears in color correction, printing, and visual arts generally.
