mediate

Bridge opposing sides

To mediate is to act as an intermediary between disputing parties, helping them reach agreement: A retired judge mediated the contract dispute.

The mediator doesn't impose a decision but facilitates communication.

Mediate also means to occupy a middle position or serve as a connecting link: Language mediates our experience of the world.

As an adjective (accent on second syllable), mediate means indirect or acting through an intermediary, the opposite of immediate.
