interpose

Insert oneself amid

To interpose is to place something between other things, or to insert oneself into a situation.

You might interpose an objection during a debate or interpose yourself between quarreling parties: She interposed herself between the two men before fists could fly.

The word carries a sense of deliberate intervention—stepping in to separate, mediate, or interrupt.
