mesial
Near the middle
Mesial is a dental and anatomical term meaning toward the midline—the imaginary line dividing the body into left and right halves.
In dentistry, the mesial surface of a tooth is the side facing toward the center of the dental arch: The cavity was on the mesial surface of the molar.
The opposite is distal.
