mahatmas

Revered spiritual masters

Mahatmas are people of great soul or spiritual distinction, especially in Hindu tradition.

The Sanskrit term combines "great" and "soul." In India, it became an honorific for revered teachers and leaders—most famously Mohandas Gandhi, called Mahatma Gandhi.

In Theosophy, mahatmas are enlightened masters who guide humanity's spiritual evolution from hidden realms.
