Blavatsky
Occultist from Russia
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831–1891) was a Russian-born occultist and author who cofounded the Theosophical Society in 1875.
Often called Madame Blavatsky or simply HPB, she wrote influential esoteric works including *Isis Unveiled* and *The Secret Doctrine*, which attempted to synthesize Eastern and Western spiritual traditions.
Her name appears frequently in discussions of 19th-century spiritualism, comparative religion, and the origins of modern New Age thought.
