lodgments

Footholds firmly established

Lodgments is the plural of lodgment, meaning a place where something is deposited or stuck: lodgments of debris in the gutter, calcium lodgments in the joints.

In military usage, a lodgment is a foothold gained in enemy territory—a position secured for further advance.

The spelling lodgement is also common, especially in British English.
