lobby group

Organized influence seekers

A lobby group is an organization that works to influence government policy or public opinion on particular issues.

Unlike political parties, lobby groups don't seek office themselves—they pressure those who hold it.

The term is interchangeable with interest group or pressure group: Environmental lobby groups pushed for stricter emissions standards.

The gun lobby remains powerful in American politics.
