loans

Money you owe

Loans are sums of money lent to a borrower, typically with the expectation of repayment plus interest.

Banks issue loans for homes, cars, and education.

The word works as both noun and verb: She took out a loan for tuition; He loaned me fifty bucks.

In American English, loan and lend are often interchangeable as verbs, though some prefer lend for the action and loan for the thing itself.
