lithographic

Flat surface printing

Lithographic describes things relating to lithography, a printing process where images are transferred from a flat surface—originally limestone, now typically metal plates.

The technique relies on the principle that oil and water don't mix: ink adheres to treated areas while blank spaces repel it.

The museum displayed lithographic prints from the 1890s.

A lithographic press requires skilled operation.
