Currier and Ives
Victorian American printmakers
Currier and Ives was a nineteenth-century American printmaking firm whose lithographs depicted idealized scenes of American life—snowy villages, horse-drawn sleighs, pastoral landscapes, hunting scenes.
The images were mass-produced and widely distributed, becoming iconic representations of nostalgic Americana.
Today "Currier and Ives" evokes a romanticized, sentimental vision of old-fashioned American life: The town square looked like a Currier and Ives scene.
