lashes

Fringe the eyes

Lashes are the hairs that grow along the edge of the eyelids, also called eyelashes.

The word also refers to strokes of a whip or the flexible part of a whip itself: The prisoner received twenty lashes.

To lash is to strike with a whip, to tie something down tightly (lash the cargo to the deck), or to move violently: Rain lashed against the windows.

To lash out is to attack suddenly, physically or verbally.
